  3. According to the Climate Change Authority Australia isn’t in progress to achieve the 2030 emissions goal and it needs to fall by 15 Mt CO2e each year (it fell by 3 Mt in FY 2024).
  4. The AEMC released their analysis of residential electricity trends and estimates that prices could be 13% lower in ten years’ time if the transition proceeds as AEMO expects.
  5. Retailers now need to receive customer consent to change their retail tariff after getting a smart meter installed on their premises.

FERMing the system

1.      The South Australian Government released a consultation paper on their new Firm Energy Reliability Mechanism.

2. Solar PV installations in Australia hit the 4 million mark.

3.      The CEC released a paper estimating that utility-scale renewable generation can deliver $1 billion to farmers and $200 million to regional communities by 2030.

4.      The US spent $50 billion on distribution services in 2023 followed by transmission and generation.

Driving Change

BESS Beginnings

In this Weekly Dispatch:

1.      AEMO released the Q3 Energy Dynamics Report stating that a cold start to spring led to more energy demand and that there is 45.6 GW of new capacity progressing through the connection process.

2. Construction commences on stage two of Origin’s Eraring BESS.

3.      The first stage of Neoen’s Collie BESS has commenced operations ahead of schedule.

4. Powerlink released its Transmission Annual Planning Report (TAPR) while AEMO released the Victorian Annual Planning Report.

5.      ARENA supports Australia’s first concentrated solar thermal deployment, with $17.2 million in funding for Mars Petcare to develop the renewable energy plant at its pet food manufacturing facility.

1.      The UN reports that countries must start curbing emissions immediately as the globe is on track for a 3.1c temperature rise.
